About Us

GALS (Gender Activism, Learning, and Service) is an RSO at the University of Chicago and was founded in the fall of 2010.

The mission of GALS is to encourage an active dialogue on and an engagement with gender and women’s issues and international affairs, and to promote leadership in the fields of policymaking & implementation on these issues.

GALS is an organization that maintains an inherent and conscious focus on gender issues. The organization provides a fulfilling experience to its members through a structured program that builds upon itself each quarter, culminating with meaningful knowledge, skills and real-world impact.

We hope to offer our members a deeper understanding of the issues and problems that face today’s society, and how gender figures into the future, along with an idea of the possible solutions and the concrete experience to act in pursuit of these solutions. Through GALS, we hope that our members will gain the confidence, motivation and spirit to enter into public and political spheres and bring about real, momentous change.

We meet Mondays at 7:00 PM in Harper 151.
